Fan Project needs some attention!

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 20, 2013, 7:40 PM
Hello everypony!

I'm here to bring to your attention an awesome fan-made project!

tidalkraken has been working to produce very high-quality Equestrian "Bit" Coins!

These coins are, as he calls them, "faithfully designed Equestrian money," and are the "unofficial official" bits!

These coins are in fact collectible, and each comes with their own individual certificate of authenticity!

As you can see, these coins are of very fine quality, and are pretty cheap too!

Currently, you can get One bit and Five bit denominations on their website, found here: bronycoin.com/

More styles are currently in production, such as a unicorn-based 10-bit coin!

Check out both :icontidalkraken:'s dA page and the website for updates and getting your own coin!

Tell your friends! Tell all the bronies you know! Everypony should know that these are great collector's items for great value!

~Fifth Element

I'm surprised he didn't stamp the face of it with the likeness of Princess Celestia! :P

BTW, do you what metal he used to produce these coins?

Since it has a good finish surface and costs 20 dollars each I will assume this is probably cold stamped steel with a bronze finish on the surface.

However, there is also the chance that this is a combination of nicke, tin and zinc.

since they accept product return within 30 days without questions asked, this must be something hard to deform.

I'm tempted to make a custom coin for myself -- not of the Equestrian bit, I mean, but for something else entirely, like... maybe a Septim. Or an American coin WITHOUT the 'In God We Trust' bullcrap :XD:

It's made of zinc composite with extremely thick plating. They're damn near indestructible.

most likely. All I really know about the material itself is that I couldn't even scratch it correctly by dragging it through gravel.

this coin could be some kind of composite material, something hard in the surface and something resilient in the center.

they are not at all cheap. Each coin is $20.00 which I think is outrageous.

phyrexianrevoker Featured By Owner Mar 21, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
yeah... this is really expensive.
A coin is usually cheap to produce, however, only if you have all the machinery to do so.
TO make a good finish you would have to deform it in a cold environment instead of a hot one, and doing that in a domestic place is difficult.
In the other hand it may be expensive because this is the first stock.

Much like the episodes on youtube. The only emphasis on legality here that I'd be concerned about is the printing of money. Yes it isn't in national form and vendors wouldn't accept them (except of course collectors perhaps) but still its a bit iffy about its production.

as far as I'm concerned the production of fake money is a crime...
This is a big coin with a phoenix on it and has the value of one bit, this is a fantasy product.
Its is not a crime for toy factories to produce the money of monopoly :P

True but what I'm getting at is that Monopoly money is just paper (like print-out paper) MAKING it worthless (not necessarily the design). I couldn't see on the site but what is the MATERIAL of the coins.
